Google Data Studio vs Microsoft Power BI
Both Tools are designed to analyze data, especially large amounts of Data. So many ask what is the difference, and which one should I use.
Let’s start with Google Data Studio. According to seerinteractive.com “Google Data Studio is a dashboard and reporting tool that is easy to use, customize, and share. It allows you to transform your data into appealing and informative reports for your audience. It’s a great tool to track KPIs that support business objectives and generate periodic reports.”
In other words, you can transform a large data set into Charts, Reports, Cards and Tables, allowing for you to view the information graphically. Like Power BI you are also able to Filter this data and graphics adjust accordingly. It seems the main focus of Google Data Studio is for Google Data Analytics and the tools are certainly more comprehensive than your Google Analytics Tool.
Having said that, Data Studio can be used for most types of data analysis.
So what is the difference?
According to https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/what-is-power-bi/ it gives the following: “Power BI is a business analytics solution that lets you visualize your data and share insights across your organization, or embed them in your app or website. Connect to hundreds of data sources and bring your data to life with live dashboards and reports.”
This tool also comes as a desktop application so can work with your data offline. Its purpose is to serve as a corporate data analysis tool.
One can liken it to two types of Vehicles. A sedan and a 4×4. Yes, both are vehicles but are designed for differing needs and purposes. Google Data Studio is simpler and easier to use, but may be limited in certain areas. Power BI is harder to use but has in some cases much greater range and use.
